Quai de la Gabelle est un travail photographique et vidéo mené avec les habitants d’un camp Rom à Arles entre 2014 et 2016. Durant plusieurs mois, j’ai régulièrement rendu visite aux habitants et multiplié les manières de photographier ce lieu et les gens y vivant : en utilisant différents boitiers, alternant entre photographie et vidéo, documentant parfois, mettant en scène d’autre fois. Rapidement, il m’a semblé nécessaire d’inclure ceux que je photographiais à ma réflexion plastique et politique. De cela est né notre première collaboration : 9 juillet 2015, une soirée de projection organisée avec les habitants afin d’attirer l’attention sur l’évacuation du bâtiment qui était imminente à l’époque. Nous avions cette nuit-là associé leur hospitalité au protocole d’exposition, invitant ainsi les arlésiens et les spectateurs des Rencontres de la photographie à prendre conscience de la situation du camp. Cette soirée de projection avait été organisée en association avec les habitants de la Gabelle, du PEROU (pole d’exploration des ressources urbaines) et du collectif solidarité Rom Arles. Aujourd’hui, je présente ces photographies principalement sous forme de planches-contacts. Elles sont une référence au travail en cours du photographe, mais aussi, ici, évoquent mon incapacité, ou encore, le refus qui m'animait, de représenter en une série d'images linéaire, le quai et ses habitants.

Quai de la Gabelle is a photographic and video work carried out with the inhabitants of a Roma camp in Arles between 2014 and 2016.For several months, I regularly visited the inhabitants and multiplied the ways I photographed this place and the people living there: using different cameras, alternating between photography and video, sometimes documenting, other times staging.It soon became clear to me that I needed to include those I was photographing in my artistic and political reflection.This led to our first collaboration: July 9, 2015, an evening screening organized with the residents to draw attention to the building's evacuation, which was imminent at the time.That night, we had combined their hospitality with the exhibition protocol, inviting Arles residents and Rencontres de la photographie spectators to become aware of the camp's situation. The evening screening was organized in association with the residents of La Gabelle, PEROU (pole d'exploration des ressources urbaines) and the collectif solidarité Rom Arles.Today, I present these photographs mainly in the form of contact sheets. They are a reference to the photographer's work in progress, but also, evoke my inability, or even my refusal, to represent the quay and its inhabitants in a linear series of images.
